Ferrara
Mario Soldati called Ferrara the "Garden City", one of the most lovely in Italy. Dating back to the VII century, it developed thanks to the Dukes of the Este family, who chose this city for the display of their magnificence through the building of palaces, museums and parks which are still today the pride of its inhabitants.
The Estense Castle, built in 1385, the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace, Palazzo dei Diamanti, Palazzo Massari with its large public garden and Palazzo Sacrati-Prosperi are only some of the many splendours of Ferrara to be admired.
Ferrara is also the bicycle city; it is easy to get around by cycling paths or along the narrow city centre streets.
